| All Blackhawk Furniture Products
are made of Northern and Appalachian red oak solids and selected
domestic veneers.
Northern and Appalachian red oak is harder and more
durable. The color and grain pattern are more consistent than
faster growing Southern oaks.
Blackhawk Furniture features solid oak crowns, corners
and moldings. No edge banding (tape) in critical areas.
Adds strength and durability in all the critical
areas, and to the life of the furniture.
All veneers used are domestic plain slice.
Sliced veneers have a tighter grain pattern than
rotary cut. Their grains are more compatible with solid oak
and add to the beauty of the furniture. Domestic veneers are
twice as thick as some imports. They are more resistant to
nicks and scratches. They sand and take a stain better than
thin veneers.
Tops and sides are sliced veneers over furniture grade
substrate and inner plywood cores.
Plywood cores are cross directional. They are stronger
than particleboard and will not crack, warp, split or swell.
Following is a description of the hardwood plywood that Blackhawk
Furniture purchases from Columbia Forest Products through Heritage
Hardwoods. Our "Classic Core I" is a custom A grade,
plain slice, Red Oak established to ensure a consistent quality
product and is used in the manufacture of Blackhawk furniture.
The A face designation is a grade for natural characteristics
which exceed the ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
Standards. Other parameters are then placed on the grade. The
wood is sorted for color to give a consistent color range from
panel to panel; the panels must have a good plain slice character,
with the cathedrals separated by straight grain, and heavy figure
is not allowed. This special grade represents the top 50% of the
A grade P/S Red Oak purchased by our supplier. The core under
the hardwood is also a special plywood construction in order to
meet the thickness specifications and the smoothness of the cross
bands to eliminate core transfer, core gaps and core laps. The
plywood cross bands are an engineered wood product utilizing Aspen
in the composition. This 7-ply plywood construction gives the
consistent finish ability of an MDF product without the added
weight and the sacrifice of screw holding and durability.
All casegoods have full 5/8” recessed plywood
back panels.
A recessed plywood back is much stronger than the
normal stapled-on panel backing. Plywood holds screws better
than particleboard, and makes it easier to mount mirrors to
the dresser.
Casegoods are cleated and corner blocked with full
face frames.
Adds stability and structural integrity to the casegoods.
They will not “rack” (twist) and therefore, doors
stay square and drawers open easily.
All electrical components are UL approved.
This assures utmost safety and reliability. |
